The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is returning to Berlin for rounds 13 and 14 of Season 11, a city that has featured on the calendar for every season of the all-electric racing series.
The 2.345km track located at the historic Tempelhof airport features 15 turns and has a highly abrasive surface meaning teams need to pay careful attention to energy management and tyre wear.
Lucas di Grassi, #11: “I’ve raced 19 times here at Tempelhof and have been on the podium six times, so it’s a circuit I know very well. The concrete track means tyre degradation is very high and there’s a real focus on energy management, however this helps make Berlin a very entertaining track for fans and drivers alike. I’m really looking forward to racing here again in front of a home crowd for the team.”
Zane Maloney, #22: “Berlin is the first track I ever drove a Formula E car around, having taken part in the rookie test here in 2023 and then again 2024. It’s a fast circuit with plenty of overtaking opportunities, however the surface presents a range of challenges. We’ve been doing a lot of work in the sim to ensure we are as prepared as possible as I look to secure my first points for Lola Yamaha ABT.”
Mark Preston, Motorsport Director, Lola Cars said: “We learnt a lot during the Asian leg of the season and have shown positive development and improved pace on track. We hope these learnings will translate into points in Berlin where management of energy and tyres will play a key role in race strategies and hopefully lead to some unpredictability that could work in our favour.”
Thomas Biermaier, CEO, ABT: “We’ve really been heading in the right direction as a team, making improvements in all areas and becoming much stronger. With the extra boost we know we will feel at our second home race of the season, we aim to translate this progress into positive results on track."
Heading into the race in Berlin, the Lola Yamaha ABT team is eleventh in the Teams’ standings with 30 points.
