Key points
  • Triumvirate team looking to build on further improvements made in Jeddah

  • The race will feature the use of PIT BOOST for the second time this season

  • Madrid E-Prix takes place on Saturday 22nd March at 15:05 CET / 14:05 UTC

Lola Yamaha ABT is returning to the first place it put tyres on the track in public, the Circuito del Jarama, for the Madrid E-Prix this weekend.

The 3.934km track was previously used by Formula E for pre-season testing ahead of Season 11 when Lola joined the Championship. With 14 turns, the winding circuit features a re-profiled chicane on the pit straight and a number of elevation changes. These features, combined with this being a new race circuit and the return of pit boost will add further strategy complexities for the teams.

Last time out in Jeddah, despite missing out on points, the team made positive developments in qualifying and race pace, along with race strategy and execution which it will continue to build on in Spain.

Lucas di Grassi, #11: “After showing more pace in Jeddah and executing our strategy well, I’m hoping further improvements made in the past month will enable us to be competing for points in Madrid. Despite driving here for pre-season testing, this being a new race circuit for the series means it is a learning experience for everyone, which will hopefully work in our favour.”

Zane Maloney, #22: “In Jeddah we were able to really maximise the performance of the car to achieve my best qualifying of the season and I hope we can repeat this to put us in a strong position for the race in Jarama. Of course, the team has been working hard since the last race to make improvements and prepare for the Madrid E-Prix but the biggest job has been the rebuild of my car since the incident in the Evo Sessions. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their work to get my car ready to go back on track and hopefully score points, which would be a great reward for all their efforts.”

Mark Preston, Team Principal, Lola Yamaha ABT, said: “Overall, we had a positive weekend in Jeddah, with further improvements made to performance, communication and strategy implementation. We will be continuing to build on these developments in Madrid, where we hope it being a new circuit for all the teams will be beneficial to us.

“The whole team has been working hard since Jeddah not only on preparation for this weekend’s race but on the rebuild of Zane’s car since the accident during the Evo Sessions. It was a massive job and I’m very proud of the way the whole team pulled together.”

On Sunday 22nd March, McLaren Development Driver Richard Verschoor and Lola Yamaha ABT sim driver Hugh Barter will take to the Circuit del Jarama for the rookie test.

Round 6 of Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship takes place on Saturday 21st March, with qualifying at 09:40 UTC and the race at 14:05 UTC. Find out where to watch the action where you are here.
