• The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to the Shanghai International Circuit for two E-Prix this weekend
• The double-header, featuring PIT BOOST in the first race, will provide unpredictability at a circuit where energy management is crucial
After adding ten more points to its team total in Tokyo, the Lola Yamaha ABT team is looking to increase its tally this weekend in Shanghai.
The Shanghai International Circuit was conceived by renowned designer Hermann Tilke, who has been responsible for some of the most famous racetracks in motorsport. From above, the unique layout resembles the Chinese character “上” (shang), meaning ‘up above’.
Formula E is once again using a shortened version of the traditional Grand Prix layout. Made up of 12 turns, the 3.051km track combines high-speed straights and tight corners to create a challenging circuit with a number of overtaking opportunities.
Lucas di Grassi, #11
“I always find racing in China in Formula E special as it’s where I won the first ever fully electric motorsport race in the Championship’s debut in Beijing. I’m hoping to add to this success in China with more points for the team in Shanghai, following my P5 finish in Tokyo. The Shanghai International Circuit is very technical and one I know well having raced here in both Formula 1 and WEC but is particularly challenging in a Formula E car, with energy and temperature management being very important.”
Zane Maloney, #22
“I’ve never raced in Shanghai before so I’m really looking forward to experiencing the track after spending as much time as possible in the sim since Tokyo. Its wide and flowing design should allow for plenty of overtakes and exciting racing for the fans. Following further hard work from the team, I’m hoping to be able to maximise the potential we’ve seen in the last few races and secure my first points for Lola Yamaha ABT.”
Mark Preston, Motorsport Director, Lola Cars
“We’re heading into the race in China off the back of our second points finish, which as a new team we are very proud of. We hope to keep building on this positive momentum here in Shanghai as we face a challenging circuit where strategy will be key.”
Thomas Biermaier, CEO, ABT
“Tokyo was a positive weekend for us, with more vital points scored in the first of our three home races. We have been working tirelessly in the time since then to prepare for the Shanghai E-Prix, which will require a very different style of racing to Tokyo. The target is to be in the fight for points again this weekend.”
Heading into the races in Shanghai, the Lola Yamaha ABT team is eleventh in the Teams’ standings with 28 points.
