Hugh Barter will once again take the wheel of the Lola T001 for Rookie Free Practice ahead of the Miami E-Prix.

The Australian Japanese driver will return to Formula E at the Miami International Autodrome, having previously competed in the Berlin Rookie Test in both 2023 and 2025 (the latter with Lola Yamaha ABT). Since his early career in karting, Hugh has finished runner-up in the French F4 Championship in 2021 and 2022 respectively, in addition to the F4 Spanish Championship in 2022. He was also part of the team which won the Indianapolis 6H GTD in September 2025.

As Lola Yamaha ABT’s Simulator Test Driver, Hugh has worked closely with the team, helping to optimise car setup and strategy for this season, while also playing a role in the development of Lola’s GEN4 race car. His involvement in Rookie Free Practice will further build upon his racetrack experience.

Hugh Barter, #25: “It’s a privilege to continue to work with Lola Yamaha ABT on development for both the current Formula E car and the GEN4 car that will be competing from next season. Taking part in Rookie Free Practice is a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to once again getting behind the wheel of the Lola T001 and translating everything we’ve achieved in the sim to the track.”

Mark Preston, Team Principal, Lola Yamaha ABT, said: “We are very pleased that Hugh is returning to the track with Lola Yamaha ABT. He has provided invaluable feedback both in the sim, and behind the wheel of the GEN4 car we are currently developing, so we look forward to getting additional input from him in Miami while giving him crucial development time on track.”

The Rookie Free Practice session (FP0) is taking place at 14:30 EST (19:30 UTC) on Friday 30th January ahead of the Miami E-Prix on Saturday 31st January. Qualifying at 09:40 local time (14:40 UTC) and the race at 14:05 local time (19:05 UTC). Find out where to watch the action where you are here.
